Drawing who keeps showing up together…
Which organizations, places, and projects keep appearing together in Bentonville’s news and public records — with the documents behind every pairing. Appearing together is not proof of partnership, ownership, influence, or endorsement; it’s a lead worth reading.
We filter out pairings that are just boilerplate — a publisher’s name on every story, a city name in every dateline — so what’s left means something.
The map draws the top 80 of 4,278 active names in this window so it stays readable. Quieter names are still counted in the summary. We cap what renders to keep the page fast.
Every line on the map is a “co-mention” — two names appearing together in the same public document. We rank the pairs that are easier to verify: named civic actors, multiple independent sources, recent publication dates, pairings across different kinds of actors, and passages where both names appear in the same context.
Names are ordered by civic signal — mention volume weighted toward Bentonville government evidence — not raw mention count. Each time window is counted and filtered on its own, so counts are not comparable across windows.
Current window filtering
“Notable connections” is the narrower surface: pairs with a classified relationship type — funding, acquisition, appointment, policy, and similar — where both endpoints are named actors, not generic topics or ordinary parent/child institution links. “Snippet-verified” means the classifying keyword appears in the same passage as both names, the most defensible label; “Title-classified” means the keyword only appeared in a source title, a weaker signal worth checking. Connections are sorted by notability score, which combines document count, source diversity, cross-type relevance, specificity, recency, snippet evidence, and classification confidence.
The strongest pairs rise to the top after we merge alternate names for the same entity, downweight place names that appear in nearly every local story, and score for source diversity and recency. Every row links to its sources and snippets — read them before treating a pairing as more than a lead.
